Proverbs 15:9 – The way of the wicked is an abomination unto the LORD: but he loveth him that followeth after righteousness.
There is a strange notion in modern Western culture today that God does not care how we behave. Rather He loves us the way we are. Further the notion is promoted that “God made me this way” including all of our sins and shortcomings.
This idea of a permissive rather than forgiving yet holy Heavenly Father is a lie. The Bible teaches us in numerous passages that He is holy and expects us to be holy. To that end He sent Jesus to redeem us from sin and to conform us to the image of the Savior. Furthermore, until His children are fully glorified, we should expect chastening from Him to discipline us. “Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby” (Hebrews 12:11). We will not fully realize perfect holiness this side of heaven, but joy is found close to the holiness of God.
