Biblical Reflections: Isaiah 43:2

Isaiah 43:2 – When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.

The Lord is often portrayed as the Rock of our Salvation throughout the Bible. Whether it is Mt. Ararat that Noah’s ark rested upon following the Flood or the cleft where Moses was protected on Mt. Sinai or even the smooth stones used by David to defeat Goliath, stones or rocks are often used as a metaphor of the protection and defense by God. As the Rock, Jesus Christ is both the Chief Cornerstone for the saints and yet the Rock of Offense for unbelievers. As sinners, we are saved from God’s righteous wrath by the shelter of the cleft of Christ’s love. Furthermore, we are defended, comforted, and uplifted by God’s Holy Spirit day to day. Indeed the Lord is our Salvation in every way. Whether it is protection from temptations today or entrance into Eternal Heaven, He is our Salvation. He is our all in all. Look to Him in all things. He is your defender, your shield, and your comfort.
