Biblical Reflections: John 14:27

John 14:27 – Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

One of the chief characteristics of Jesus of Nazareth was His unflappable demeanor. Even when He was approached by innumerable people seeking healing or wisdom and challenged by hypocrites testing His sovereignty, Jesus never worried or lost His temper.

The peace of God the Father was ever present with the Son. Because of the trust that Jesus placed in the Father, He was able to pursue the will of the Father even through great hardship. Praise God that He granted grace to His people the faith to trust in Him as well. As we exercise that God-given faith, we too can share God’s rich blessings and endure persecution.

Trust is at the heart of the peace granted by Christ. Without trust, peace is a practical impossibility. Trusting in Him and obeying Him will always lead to peace of mind if not peace of circumstance. Trust and obey.
