Biblical Reflections: Revelation 3:20

Revelation 3:20 – Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

In the Revelation given to the Apostle John, there are many wonderful images and shadows of the Christ’s kingdom. The vision of God and His Christ stagger the imagination and the mind, but there are also many clear illustrations like Revelation 3:20.  Here the Lord portrays Himself as present, waiting at the door for those that hear Him knocking to answer.

When the sheep hear the voice of the Good Shepherd, they know His presence as the Spirit of God works in them “both to will and to do of His good pleasure” (Philippians 2:13). When we submit to the Spirit, we answer the knocking of the Lord through obedience to His Word. Let us heed the call of Christ and not bar the door to Him, inviting Him to come in and take His due place in our lives.
