Matthew 5:8 – Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
Have you ever tasted water flowing off a mountain in the higher elevation? Few things can compare to the cool pure taste. In many cases you are drinking melted snow when you imbibe such water. It is so good that companies selling water often imitate the taste and portray their brand with images of white capped mountains. These impressions give us a sense of purity.
Why is purity important? Well, who wants to drink dirty water? Water is essential to life. Diseases attributed to unclean water are responsible for at least 15% of deaths in many underdeveloped countries(1). Purity matters.
Water is not the only thing that requires purity. Without purity we are prone to error, sin and misery. If impure water causes disease, then impure thoughts lead to sin and and death. Purity is critical to any believer, and the only way to remain pure is to stay close to God washing ourselves with the water of His Word. For, “every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him” (Proverbs 30:5).
