Biblical Reflections: Esther 4:14

Esther 4:14 – For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father’s house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?

God’s people have always had a special calling and duty to serve Him in righteousness. The book of Esther more and more mirrors modern society. The adversaries of God are increasingly influential and some seek to oust and even destroy Christians. The saints of the present are duty bound to God and future generations to uphold justice, mercy and faith.

Just think about yourself. Daily you are presented with opportunities to show the Light of Christ in love and righteousness. To do otherwise is to shirk our responsibility and duty. This is like the priest and the Levite in the parable of the Good Samaritan. They passed by the man victimized by robbers lest they be caught up with his troubles. The Good Samaritan had compassion on the man and ministered to him.

If we fail to stand up for Jesus today, we may not have the same opportunities to serve Him tomorrow. For example, King David failed to discipline himself and his sons, and ultimately his family suffered for generations. The Lord is speaking to you today through the Bible saying, “Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children: for blessed are they that keep my ways” (Proverbs 8:32).
