Biblical Reflections: John 14:15

John 14:15 – If ye love me, keep my commandments.

Jesus once said that He was going to leave peace with His disciples that the world could not fathom (John 14:27). So too, He demonstrated a love that only God could provide. In return for this great love that He gave us, he asks that we keep His commandments.

It is easy to say that we love someone when we have nothing to lose. Jesus knew from the beginning that His love for His people would require His life. He drank from the cup of God’s righteous vengeance for us. He save them from Hell itself. Now that is love.

No one has ever sacrificed like Christ, and in return we owe Him our lives. Paul said, “Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law” (Romans 13:8). More important than even faith and hope, love is the chief thing. Love someone today like there is no tomorrow.
