1 John 3:1 – Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
Have you taken time today to consider the magnitude of God’s love? If you haven’t, then you should. God’s love is just one of the characteristics of His holiness, but it is the means of His condescension to us through Jesus Christ. Like a loving father, God sets boundaries and He seeks out His children to cover them with His protection. We deserve none of this care, but grace is not about what we deserve. On the contrary, Grace and her sister Mercy are outpourings of love.
Lest we think God is simply a foolishly passive and permissive parent and forget that God’s holiness also includes purity and justice, we remember that God will not clear the guilt of sin without atonement. Jesus, the Holy One of Israel, the Lord of Glory, was sent in the form of a man with all the weaknesses thereof yet without sin. He came not simply to live the perfect life but to give that life for YOU! So doing, Jesus became the embodiment of love, mercy, grace, justice and purity at once demonstrating the fullness of His righteousness and holiness of and His deity. Think on that for a few minutes!
