Biblical Reflections: Isaiah 6:8

Isaiah 6:8 – Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.

When the going gets tough, it is easy to back away from the fight.  No one understood this better than Isaiah.  Isaiah was a prophet under many kings.  Sadly despite his years of evangelism and declaring the impending judgement and eventual salvation of the Lord, he was not heeded by the people of his day.

Sometimes love requires taking a hard stance.  It requires us to say and do things that we would prefer were unnecessary.  Extreme cases require wives to call the police to take their husband to rehab.  In another case, a brother must tell his parents about the illicit acts of his sister.  The truth is sometimes hard to deliver and hard to bear, but it is always better than the alternative.

Even though Isaiah was told that the people would not hear his messages of warning or hope, he did it anyway.  He said, “Here I am, send me.”  Don’t shy away from the duty God has given you.  Let God empower you to run the race before you.
