Brotherly Love – Hebrews 13:1

Hebrews 13:1 – Let brotherly love continue.

There are many characteristics that should identify disciples of Jesus Christ.  Faith, hope, patience, honesty, mercy, justice, and other like attributes are essential.  However, the most important is love. Love covers a multitude of sins (1 Peter 4:8).

Jesus was so bold as to declare that love is the defining characteristic of His disciples, saying, “A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another” (John 13:34-35).

While we are to live peaceably with all men, we should love our Christian brothers with a special love. “As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men , especially unto them who are of the household of faith” (Galatians 6:10). The household of faith is sacred. It is special. We may disagree, but remember to be humble and speak the truth in love.

What is the Church without brotherly love? Think about this and press to love more, showing your brothers the supreme love of Christ.
