James 5:11 – Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.
Patience is essential to our Christian walk. Without patience we cannot endure to receive the hope of the promises of God (Romans 5:4). We must with patience run the race set before us (Hebrews 12:1).
While we know that patience may be essential, probably no one has enough patience. Given the endless challenges and temptations that we face, we need patience to endure. We cannot bear fruit pleasing to God without patience as a prerequisite.
Jesus described the godly saint as the good ground in Luke 8. It is those saints with an honest and good heart (renewed by God), who “having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience” (Luke 8:15). Any crop requires faith and patience to reap the reward. May we faithfully endure to the end that like Job we may find God merciful and gracious in all things.
