1 John 2:4 – He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
I believe in the grace of God, but does grace allow us to do what we want without any regard to obedience? No. While our righteousness cannot obtain life by itself, it still matters to our loving Father.
Paul put it this way, “What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.” (Romans 6:1-4)
Jesus said that if we love Him, then we will obey His commandments. Just imagine a disobedient child saying that they are loving their earthly friends and family in sin. It is preposterous. Sin destroys. It does not build, uplift or comfort.
“Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned” (1 Timothy 1:5).
