The Lamp & The Light

Psalm 119:105 – Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

The lamp is an ancient symbol for wisdom and learning.  The psalmist declares that the Word of God is the lamp that illuminates the path set out by the infinite wisdom and knowledge of the Almighty.  In this familiar passage, we are assured that even though we may stumble and fall, we can find our way if we trust and obey.

Jesus is the embodiment of the Word of God in its perfection and truth.  The Apostle John wrote, “the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth” (John 1:14). Therefore, following Jesus equals following God’s Word. Learn what He did. Learn what He taught and apply it.

When we submit to the Lordship of Christ, we have the assurance of divine leadership. Divine! We cannot fail or faulter when we work under the banner of Christ and His Spirit within us. Jesus, once slain, is risen eternally triumphant. “So shall they fear the name of the Lord from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him” (Isaiah 59:19).

The light of Christ illuminates the kingdom of heaven. Walk in the Light as children of the light, and victory is yours already.
