The Substance of Hope – Hebrews 11:1

Hebrews 11:1 – Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Where would you be without faith?  Really?  What would your life be like without something to believe in to lead you through the challenges and troubles you face?  I think you know.  You would be utterly lost and dead without any hope.

Hopelessness is perhaps the worst condition imaginable.  Without hope depression and anxiety reign.  Hope assures us that their is a better tomorrow.  This Scripture tell us that our hopes are composed of faith.  Until they are realized they have no other substance.  Thus faith is essential to a life worth living.

Faith is often misplaced and misused, but a Child of God learns that true faith, the gift of God, can only be rested upon Him alone.  The Heavenly Father sent His Son to guarantee our redemption and salvation making our hopes sure upon Rock of Christ.  Hymn writer Edward Mote composed the words to The Solid Rock with just these thoughts in mind, saying…

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.

Mr Mote used these words to comfort a dying sister in his church, and they have since provided such assurance and encouragement to countless others as we rest in the hope of life eternally with God.

Go about your day with gladness, knowing that because of Jesus Christ, you have hope immeasurable.
