2 Corinthians 9:7 – Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.
If ever you have heard a sermon concerning charitable giving, it likely referenced this verse. However, we should further apply this principle to the giving of time and energy to the work of our calling in Christ. Whether we are teachers or preachers, doctors or lawyers, brick layers or secretaries, or any other profession, our primary objective is to glorify God. How can we do this without a cheerful attitude? Joy should be one of our defining characteristics.
One way to live and give cheerfully is to live purposely. Living with purpose has been a popular theme among Christian circles in recent years. Our purpose then should be aligned with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, serving others and shining forth the Light of Christ to the glory of God. Living in this manner we fine that our lives have a deeper meaning and purpose than mere existence.
Live with cheer. Live for glory.
