Proverbs 12:27 – The slothful man roasteth not that which he took in hunting: but the substance of a diligent man is precious.
The Apostle Paul compared life to a race, a race that we should run as to win it. When we quit we cannot hope to finish the race much less win. The proverb above describes how only the slothful hunter would stop short of cooking his catch. So what are we to do?
While we should not put too much importance upon the things of the world, we should strive to be diligent in our stewardship of the blessings we receive. Furthermore, Jesus taught us to lay up treasures in heaven that cannot be corrupted. “Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him” (James 1:12).
A good soldier maintains his armaments lest they be unprepared for attack and defense. Its time to polish your armor. It is time to cook.
