2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 – Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace, Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.
When you were a child, did you ever play a game where you declared a certain spot as “base?” If so, you have something in common with innumerable children throughout the world. Whether it is a porch, a tree, a foxhole, or the Gospel, we all need a safe haven.
When we have a safe place for retreat and rest, we are better able to venture forth in confidence. For Christians, this safe haven is Jesus Christ. He is the Rock upon which our faith and hope are placed (Romans 9:33). Resting in Jesus, we can take on the world knowing that He has already overcome the world (John 16:33). It cannot ultimately hold any power over us.
So come on. Can you beat me to the porch?
