The Days of Heaven – Deuteronomy 11:21

Deuteronomy 11:16, 21 – Take heed to yourselves, that your heart be not deceived, and ye turn aside, and serve other gods, and worship them…. That your days may be multiplied, and the days of your children, in the land which the LORD sware unto your fathers to give them, as the days of heaven upon the earth.

Do you ever wonder why things are not better? Why are people so sinful, and why are societies corrupt? We understand that since the days in Eden, mankind has inherited a sin nature, but even though God has revealed Himself in miraculous way, we still struggle with one another and Him. The real reason for much of our trouble is that even when we see God we turn away. Like the Israelites who fled from Moses when the light of God shone from his face, we run away as well. (Exodus 34:29-35). Sinful people need God.

Running away from God is like fleeing from the sun. You may think you have escaped only to find the light on the other side. We can not get away from God. Besides, blessing and life are His. As C.S. Lewis once wrote, “God cannot give us a happiness and peace apart from Himself, because it is not there. There is no such thing.”

If we would be happy, if we would be blessed, then we must take heed and seek Him. When we find God, we find heaven for it is His kingdom. Seek it first, and we will enjoy the days of heaven together.
