Philippians 2:9-11 – Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
There have been many, many times in life that I have thought too much of myself. It is no wonder. Most people are quite capable of inflating their egos going well beyond the proper limits of dignity. What we are pitifully bad at is humility. I do not think I have ever heard of anyone that was too humble. Have you?
Jesus was humble. Humility was one of His defining characteristics. Though He was surrounded by throngs of followers, He restrained those human impulses to boss them around and take advantage of their devotion. Instead He condescended to their station showing them and guiding them (and us) by His divine example. The absolute example of this holiness evident in the Savior is demonstrated from the time He washed the disciples feet to the hours in agony upon Calvary taking upon Himself the sins of men women who abandoned Him.
Because of His willingness to persist and endure this shame and suffering, God the Father has exalted the name of Jesus above all others. While mankind may resist Him for now, there will come a day in this life or the next when we will all bow before Him. Let those who follow Him, no longer stand aside. Let us submit to His will now not waiting. May God wash away our sins and all things that constrain us that we might confess Him, our Lord and our God.
