Hebrews 3:12 – Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.
If I gave you beautiful new house, would you endeavor to take care of it? I imagine that you would. Not only would your care demonstrate appreciation, it would help you enjoy the blessing.
Christians have been given the unspeakable gift of life. The grace of God unto eternal life through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ the Son is the essence of the Good News. Without Jesus, we have no hope or joy. Praise God for His infinite greatness.
Like all gifts we receive in this life, the grace of God requires some effort on our part. Make no mistake. God’s grace will have its perfect work, but while we are still in this old body, we must mortify the deeds of the flesh (Colossians 3:5-7). If faith was all that was needed to enjoy the blessings of the Kingdom of God, then Jesus, the Apostles, the prophets, and countless teachers and preachers would not have admonished the saints in all ages to repentance and works that glorify the Lord and bless the life of the disciple.
For this reason, the letter to the Hebrews says… “Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin” (Hebrews 3:12-13). Take heed brethen today. It matters.
