Don’t Worry About Tomorrow – Matthew 6:34

Matthew 6:34 – Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

We have lots of things that we could worry about.  With all the sin, wars, political corruption, family and marital problems, sickness and pain, joblessness, poverty, and many other things that strive to depress us, we need not go far to find something disturbing.  What are we to do?  Jesus tells us not to worry about tomorrow.  Today’s issues are enough.

This admonishment from the Lord comes directly after His command to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness.  A heart set on seeking God’s Kingdom everyday is the solution to all of our concerns.  Why?  Because the Kingdom of God is the spiritual domain wherein we find solitude.  Based upon faithful adherence to a relationship filled with devotion to the Almighty God and Father, life in the Kingdom is joyful, peaceful, and reliant upon His righteousness.  There is no worry in a heart filled with the Spirit of God.

Therefore, plan as you may, but remember the will of God and trust Him first.  For forty years, Israel rose up every day with a plan.  Follow the pillar of smoke by day and follow the pillar of fire by night (Exodus 13:21-22).  The Lord will provide.  Just trust and obey.  “For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day” (2 Timothy 1:12).
