Deuteronomy 7:9 – Know therefore that the Lord thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations
The Lord is so good. Today’s Scripture brings me great comfort. I am not perfect, and I know that I have fallen short of the glory of God. I need the mercy of God. Do you?
It is important to understand that God’s mercy was won by Christ for the Children of God. “The Lord is longsuffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation” (Numbers 14:18). The Savior cleared the guilt of His people only at great cost applying faith to follow Him.
For this reason, we can trust in the Lord and take immense comfort not only for us but our children when we are faithful to the Lord. If we fail to repent, we are asking for trouble for ourselves and our children. However, note that the mercy of the Lord applies to a thousand generations while the guilt applies on to the third or fourth generation. Mercy wins.
