Seek Ye The Lord – Isaiah 55:6-7

Isaiah 55:6-7 – Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

All things are possible with God, but for us there are some mistakes that cannot be remedied.  We cannot restore a priceless heirloom once destroyed.   We cannot give life where it has been taken.  And we cannot remove the scars where sins have held sway too long.  Therefore it is imperative to seek the Lord early in life and early in our walk with Him and before sins make our lives a shipwreck.  A wrecked ship may be beyond recovery by mortal man.

Hebrews 12:14-17 tells us to “Follow peace with all men , and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord.”  Why?  Because otherwise the grace of God fails in the present life of the so-called Christian, grace should teach us to seek the same peace and holiness with others that was granted to us by God.  If we run contrary to grace, we will find ourselves in the same place as Esau, the proud yet weak minded son of Isaac.  Following the admonition above, this same passage in Hebrews tells that because he disregarded the value of his birthright, he was later rejected even though he sought a way of repentance in tears.  The fact is that some mistakes are meant to last.

I am most thankful to God that He gives us opportunity to repent.  While He controls the ultimate destiny of all Creation, He has placed the joy or sadness of our present time firmly within our grasp.  By the power of the Holy Spirit, every child of God is given new life.  Our duty is to hold that grace and the faith it gives like a treasure beyond value.  These things inform our hearts and minds and help us interpret the Word of God, wherein we find truth and true freedom.
As we begin a new year together, I hope and pray that the Lord will work in you and me to seek Him while we can see well enough to find Him.  Pick up your Bible.  Start a new Bible Study.  Pray with your family together.  Go to worship services.   Do not wait.  Do not delay.  Seek Him early.  Seek Him today.
