Philippians 3:13-14 – Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
We have all heard something like, “Life is a journey” or “Life is a contest.” Well those sentiments are close to the idea of today’s verse. As Christians, we are (or should be) working toward being more like Christ. It is our calling. We are supposed to be conformed to the image of the Son of God (Romans 8:29). This is our goal in this life and beyond.
Even the Apostle Paul said that he had not apprehended or reached this goal of Christlikeness. It is our destination and like all ultimate destinations it is at the end of the journey. Our job is making sure that we keep running toward that goal and not away to destractions. Paul says that the one thing he could claim was that he learned to look forward and not back to former sins and former ways.
Today is a new day and tomorrow will be likewise. Keep pressing, pushing and jumping into, through and over obstacles that get in your way. Help others along the way to gain and give healthy competition and encouragement. Victory is yours. Go get it.
