1 Thessalonians 2:13 – For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.
The potency of any philosophy or teaching is based upon the source of the ideas behind it. There is no greater claim of potent teaching than that of the Apostles and Prophets in the Holy Bible. As stated above by the Apostle Paul and elsewhere by others including Jesus Christ, the words spoken and penned in the pages of the Good Book are in fact inspired by GOD. Through the minds of dozens of men across thousands of years, the Creator of Heaven and Earth used mortal men to record His involvement in the world and interpret His message of righteousness, hope and faith. He validated the message of these Apostles and Prophets by working miracles through them culminating in the life of Christ.
On the surface, the claims above are ridiculous. Admit it. In our modern world, claims of messages from God seem superstitious and backward to unbelievers. In the New Testament men even claim to communicate with a Ghost, the Holy Ghost. So why do we believe if it is so silly? We believe it, because we know it is true.
In Jesus’ earthly ministry, the intellectuals and power brokers showed the same kind of skepticism we witness today. The Pharisees, Saducees and other Jewish leaders spent a great deal of time trying to disprove and discredit the teachings of Christ. When these efforts failed, they sought to kill Him. As Jesus was falsely tried before Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor even questioned the existence of truth when Jesus explained the reason for His life (John 18:33-38). They simply could not see because they did not have eyes to see and ears to hear.
Clouded by sin and self-righteousness, people cannot understand the truth, because they are lost and dead to spiritual things. Like one suffering with sand in their eyes, they can not see the truth of God the Son. Only new life through the Spirit of God that grants faith, sensitivity to one’s sinful state and hope in the salvation of Jesus Christ give this ability.
As you consider the hope you place in Jesus Christ, give thanks to GOD. Your faith is a gift. I thank God that you and I can read and understand His Word. Not everyone has this hope. It makes us very special indeed. Rejoice in your blessing and pray for the lost.
