Redeemed – Isaiah 44:22

Isaiah 44:22 – I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, thy transgressions, and, as a cloud, thy sins: return unto me; for I have redeemed thee.

Meditation:  Have you ever used a coupon to make a purchase?  Today, there are many Internet based services to compile coupons and such means to help consumers save money.  When you use coupons to save money, you redeem the value of the coupon back to yourself.  Many times, these coupons are provided by the manufacturer, and they bear the cost of the savings passed on to the consumer.

In the case of today’s passage, the Lord tells the people that He has blotted out the transgressions of Israel.  He has covered them and made them invisible to His holy justice.  How?  He paid the price in Jesus Christ.  In effect, Jesus was the gift card, the coupon, that saved God’s people, and the Manufacturer bore the cost without any help from us.  Furthermore, Jesus’ blood cleared the guilt of sin and covered our unrighteousness bringing us under the grace of God while satisfying the justice of God.

Call to Action:  Today’s Scripture provides our call to action.  We are called to return to God, because we are redeemed.  Write down the sins that you struggle with and then draw a big cross over them.  Remember that Jesus died for those sins.  He has you covered.  Now praise the Lord for His redeeming grace that saved a wretch like you and me.

Don’t think I’ll ever use a coupon again without thinking of this and Jesus!
