Water and Feed the Sheep – Genesis 29:7

Genesis 29:7 – And he said, Lo, it is yet high day, neither is it time that the cattle should be gathered together: water ye the sheep, and go and feed them.

Meditation:  Jesus Christ came to give life and truth to God’s people.  He came at just the right time.  The Good News of mercy, forgiveness, hope, and grace are like warm sunshine on a cold day.  The Good News of a Savior should not be bottled up.  In fact, like that sunshine, it cannot be contained, only shadowed.

Near the beginning of the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus declared, “Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled” (Matthew 5:6).  How?  When Jesus met the woman of Samaria at the well, He revealed that He is the living water that sustains the soul eternally. Following his denial of Christ three times on the eve of His crucifixion, Jesus reminded Paul of His love and commanded him to feed His sheep three times (John 21:15-17).  Jesus is the bread of life (John 6:35).

Remember, Christ’s blessings are for today.  Eternity has already begun.  The herds of God’s sheep need not all be gathered for the well to be opened.  Just read the rest of the passage.  (Genesis 29:1-11).

Call to Action:  Think of someone you know who feels spirtually hungry, poor and abandoned.  Tell them about the water and bread of life, Jesus, our Savior.  Encourage them to trust Him and pour our their troubles to His Spirit.  Pray with them and comfort them.
