Matthew 7:16 – Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
Meditation: False doctrines, prophecies, quotes, and bad interpretations have been a plague upon the Church throughout history. Mismanagement of the truth including lazy, poor, and purposely misleading explanations are dangerous and damaging to our reputation and a slight against the Lord. As ambassadors for Christ, what is our witness? Do we represent our King well?
In the Old Testament, false prophets were stoned for speaking falsely in the name of God. Speaking as a representative of God is serious business. Therefore the Lord Jesus Christ and the Apostles warned us often to beware of false prophets and teachers.
Jesus said we will know them by their fruits. Their actions will testify of their authenticity. False prophet and teachers cannot be allowed to speak in the Church. They must be rebuked and corrected if possible to repent. False truth is not truth at all, and it is a disease corrupting the minds of the faithful.
Call to Action: Examine your own fruits and your representation of Christ. Repent and ask forgiveness for areas of failure. Seek to correct your errors for the sake of Christ and the impact on unsuspecting minds. Ask someone in your church or your family to hold you accountable to the Truth. Jesus is the Truth.
