Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set. – Proverbs 22:28
Meditation: Have you ever been lost? In today’s world of GPSs and online mapping options, getting lost has become somewhat difficult for anyone with the right access. However, even these advanced technologies have errors, and nothing can replace a good road sign when you need it.
The Scriptures tell us not to remove the old landmarks (road signs), because when they are removed, travelers lose their way. Furthermore, landmarks are used to delineate borders and property limits. Spiritually speaking, landmarks guide our path and tell us when we have gone too far. Removing the landmark of the Truth including the Law and Prophecies, the Gospels and Epistles, or anything else makes people lose their way leading to error, sin, misery and death.
As stewards of the Truth, Christians should actively defend the Truth and stand up when anyone seeks to remove it from public or private use. We need to be vigilant, because just as when a traffic accident knocks down a sign or a construction crew changes the road and moves the landmarks in the world around us, only the Way, the Truth, and the Life can guide people in the right way.
