A Great God – Deuteronomy 10:17

For the LORD your God is God of gods, and Lord of lords, a great God, a mighty, and a terrible, which regardeth not persons, nor taketh reward: – Deuteronomy 10:17

Meditation:  Praise God for His mercy!  While His ways are higher than our ways, He is not beyond feeling or sympathizing with our weaknesses.  However, it is important to realize that “it is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not” (Lamentations 3:22).  Why?  And how?

Why we are not consumed by an all holy God should confound anyone who truly considers the infinite power and absolute righteousness of the Creator.  How can He be merciful to unholy sinners?  Indeed the Scriptures tell us that somehow He does not clear the guilty while still being merciful (Numbers 14:18). How?  Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ provided and continues to provide the solution to this divine issue.  God came in the form of the Son, Jesus Christ, to take away the sins of the world given to Him.  Furthermore, the Apostle Paul tells us that Jesus took all of the guilt of our sins and nailed them to His cross removing our sin as far as the east is from the west (Colossians 2:10-15).

Call to Action:  Acknowledge the power and majesty of our Almighty God.  Acknowledge your need for His mercy.  Acknowledge your need for Jesus Christ and praise God for providing the means for your salvation through His sacrifice.  Consider these things with godly fear and trembling.  We could never deserve such mercy.
