An Everlasting Love – Jeremiah 31:3

The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee. – Jeremiah 31:3

Meditation:  Knowing that God is loving is one of the most important things we can grasp about the Divine Nature.  This insight is vital to our understanding of His actions, His will, and His plan.  He desires children, not slaves or even hired servants.

Because God loves His people with an everlasting love, He provides for them not simply for His use but in the aim of mutual respect and devotion.  Hence, Christ is described not simply as Lord and Master but also as Husband, Friend and Savior.  Knowing that the Creator of the universe not only knows of my existence but also cares about me is profound.

Therefore the Love of God is revealed as the reason and the means of His revelation to us.  We love Him because He first love us (1 John 4:19).  Indeed, Eternal life itself is inextricably tied to knowing Him in a relationship initiated by Him (John 17:3).

Call to Action:  Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day.  Remind a Christian you know that God loves them.  No matter how we feel or how we are doing, God loves His children with all consuming love.  Happy Valentine’s Day!
