So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. – Romans 10:17
Meditation: Faith is a vast, important, and critical Biblical topic. Faith is a gift from God (Ephesians 2:8) by His grace. Without faith it is impossible to please the Lord (Hebrews 11:6). By faith, we can move mountains (Matthew 21:21). So faith is worthy of consideration.
An interesting fact about faith is that the word is used to convey many ideas. Faith is the substance of our hope (Hebrews 11:1). It is the testimony of the saints who have come before (Jude 1:3). Faith is the instrument of salvation in our present life (Luke 7:50) and the life to come (1 Peter 1:5).
This passage we consider in Romans is focused on the faith or truth and testimony of the Lord we understand. This faith is received by hearing the Word of God. You can only learn what you are taught. So it is by the gift of faith that we understand the faith we hear.
Call to Action: Read each of the passages mentioned above. Work out for yourself the meaning of faith. Pray to the Lord for strong faith to understand the faith.
