Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. – Matthew 7:13-14
Meditation: Everything around us can teach us about God. We live in a parable rich universe where we see evidence upon evidence of a transcendent Creator. Perhaps the greatest characteristic about God is how He combines majesty, power, and justice with humility, meekness, and mercy in the graceful Incarnation of the Christ. From the Spirit of Christ we have the means to receive and understand the Good News of Salvation from death to life.
Christ used the Creation in numerous parables and lessons for the disciples. As the son and grandson of farmers, I appreciate these illustrations and the ready world around me to see God’s glory. Not only do the subtle tiny elements of nature exemplify the Truth of the Creator, the world we stand as a huge illustration.
In fact the Earth illustrates the Truth of today’s passage. The strait and narrow way created and maintained by God is the only way to life today and forever. For example, if this planet’s orbit was closer to the Sun, if it was more or less circular, or if the Earth and Moon were not locked in complimentary orbits, we would not have life on Earth. The comparatively thin atmosphere would burn up or freeze us. Or we might be destroyed by incessant torrential violent wind storms. (Read The Incredible Design of the Earth and Our Solar System by Richard Deem for more details.)
By staying within the graceful eclipse established by the Divine Creator, our planet provides a seasonal and beautiful world of variety and wonder. It allows us to enjoy a stable environment friendly to life instead of facing oblivion. Such is the narrow way describes by Christ. It is for our good and our life.
To find it, we must follow the Shepherd. Only He can guide us. Only He can save us from broad way that leads to cold oblivion in darkness.
Call To Action: Read Proverbs 4:10-18. Avoid the broad way of temptations and sin, and choose the path to Christ. Only pain and death await those who do not turn away from the way of the wicked. Choose life, and choose it today!
