Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us – Hebrews 12:1
Meditation: We are not alone. This may sound either too simple or too cryptic, but it is true. All of God’s children have both companionship with God and one another. We are in communion in one Spirit.
As the crucifixion grew close, Jesus Christ said to the closest disciples, “Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you. Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you” (John 15:14-15).
This same Jesus through Whom God created the worlds (Hebrews 1:1-4) is friend to the disciples who trust and follow Him. If we have faith, then our faith can only be fulfilled in devotion.
Call to Action: It may be late in the day or the beginning of a new one, but look to your brothers and sisters, look to Jesus, the Author and Finisher of your faith. Devote yourself to Him. Devote your time, talents and resources to His service today.
You may be tired or weak, but the Lord is able not simply despite your failures. He is strong through you. His glory is found in a child’s tears over a friend broken toy, a soldier’s crutches visiting his brothers in arms, and the tender words of compassion from a minister at the graveside service. Love God and love others, and thus fulfill the commands of our most precious Friend and Savior.
