1 Chronicles 29:16
O Lord our God, all this store that we have prepared to build thee an house for thine holy name cometh of thine hand, and is all thine own.
As we continue to prepare ourselves for the celebration of Christ’s Birth, we should remember that the Lord first prepared us for Him. Since the beginning of history, we know that the followers of God were commanded to prepare for the Lord, and He was preparing them also. From prayers and sacrifices to services and obedience, preparations and participation in worship are a part of daily life of believers.
King David was well acquainted with the desire to serve God and honor Him above all things. Yet God limited the king of Israel that David was not allowed to construct the Temple. Rather, his son Solomon would oversee the completion of the Temple and David was left to prepare the materials needed for this immense project.
It took years to gather the great wealth of timber, stone, precious metals and precious gems along with the expertise to construct the Temple, and David acknowledged God’s sovereign hand in all these things, saying “O Lord our God, all this store that we have prepared to build thee an house for thine holy name cometh of thine hand, and is all thine own.”
I hope you and I can humbly acknowledge that all we have and all we have attained is due to God’s almighty hand. Without God, we would be nothing, and He is still preparing a place for us in eternity. Praise God. Praise God.
