To The Unknown God – Acts 17:23

For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you. – Acts 17:23

For much of human history, God has remained largely at a distance from the average person.  In fact God revealed Himself to few people even by Biblical standards in the Old Testament.  Revealing His divine plans through prophets with signs and miracles Jehovah remained untouchable and unreachable by anything by prayer and study of the words He gave to those inspired to pen the Old Testament.  The Apostle Paul referred to this phenomenon as the “mystery.”

In retrospect, God’s plan was always to bring His people back to Him, to restore what was lost with the first sin.  The mystery was how and why the Creator planned to do it.  How could He reconcile all that sin and wickedness with His holiness? The answer was simple but profound: God would manifest His Word in Jesus Christ, His only begotten Son. This Son would uphold the will of God and give His life to redeem the lost and restore them to the fold of God.

As we look around us at a world wracked with sin, the hope of all ages is still in God’s loving righteousness. Jesus of Nazareth, the Christ or Chosen One of God, was born to show us the unknown and mysterious nature of God, His kingdom, and the Love of God. Jesus said, “If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him” (John 14:7).

If you are looking for God today, seek Him in Jesus. He and the Father are one.
