The Glory of the Lord – Numbers 14:19-21

Pardon, I beseech thee, the iniquity of this people according unto the greatness of thy mercy, and as thou hast forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now. And the Lord said, I have pardoned according to thy word: But as truly as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the Lord. – Numbers 14:19-21

When the people of Israel provoked God following the Exodus, Moses intervened to seek God’s pardon. The man of God appealed to the greatness of the mercy of the Lord. This humble intercession demonstrated Moses’ dedication to his people, but God’s response tells us more. God would have His glory known all over the world.

Through the work of Jesus Christ, is known today in every corner of the world. Christ fulfilled the prophecy pronounced by Malachi, “For from the rising of the sun even unto the going down of the same my name shall be great among the Gentiles; and in every place incense shall be offered unto my name, and a pure offering: for my name shall be great among the heathen, saith the Lord of hosts” (Malachi 1:11).

The Savior taught us to pray and to gather in His name. The Apostles worked miracles in His name, and Peter said, “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” (Acts 4:12). And so we sing, Jesus saves! Jesus saves!
Spread the tidings all around:
Jesus saves! Jesus saves!
Bear the news to every land,
Climb the steeps and cross the waves;
Onward!—’tis our Lord’s command;
Jesus saves! Jesus saves!
