God with Us

Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. – Isaiah 7:14

Immanuel, God with us. What an amazing name! How could God be with us? Why would God be with us? The answers to these questions are at the heart of the Gospel message. Jesus Christ, the Immanuel, came down from God’s heavenly home to dwell among His creatures for His creatures. He is truly with us.

Nothing can compare to God’s presence in our lives, and we can understand the concerns of the Apostles when Jesus told them that He must go away. It must have been amazing to know Jesus in the flesh, but He is now with us still in the Spirit of God, the Holy Spirit. By the power of the Spirit, we also know and experience Him in the Word of God. We love Him through worship, our devotion to the Word, and the charity we show one another.

Brothers and sisters, you may be discouraged. You may be confused. You may feel cast down. Dispair not. Immanuel will not leave you comfortless: He will come to you (John 14:18). Pray to Him. Read about Him. Sing to Him. Adore Him. He is with us.
